Dr Oana Johnson

Director Medical Services

Dr Oana Johnson, MD, PGDipOMG, FNZCGP

Born and educated in Romania, armed with a MD qualification and lifelong passion to help people, Oana embarked into Emergency Medicine specialty after her initial year as a house officer.

After a few years in the biggest Emergency Hospital in Romania and additional work for the first private ambulance of the country Oana decided to follow her childhood dream of experiencing another culture by emigrating to New Zealand.
The beginning was hard and interesting.

Too qualified for most jobs and no New Zealand experience for others, her work vared from caring for the elderly to ECG Technician then Acting Charge Technician for the ECG department of Christchurch Public Hospital.  Oana knew that medicine was still in her blood so she re qualified and obtained New Zealand registration.
Oana started as a house surgeon then enjoyed a one year long run in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. Although she enjoyed that and continued her studies to obtain a postgraduate diploma in Womens Health, Oana realised that a long term hospital career was not for her.

Oana was attracted by the General Practice specialty with the possibility of a more balanced life/work style, varied pathology and long term relationship with the patients. She attained her Fellowship in 2017.  Additionally she performs minor skin surgery providing a hands on management of skin lesions.

Oana has a special interest in wilderness and travel medicine with this knowledge utilised in remote expeditions.

Oana’s main role is oversight of the group’s health monitoring activities.  She is also a qualified drug and alcohol tester.

Her interests include travel, skiing, motorcycling and crafting.
